ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System
 
The Occupational Health and Safety Management System Standard of the new Occupational Health and Safety Standard (ISO 45001), which aims to reduce occupational accidents by improving health and safety conditions in workplaces, was published on 30 November 2017 and was accepted by vote on 25 January 2018. ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Standard is expected to be published in the first quarter of 2018. There will be a three-year transition period after the standard is published. OHSAS was an occupational health and safety management system prepared by the UK Standards Authority, recognized by ISO (International Standards Organization) and accepted to this day. However, ISO began to develop the ISO 45001 standard in order to integrate it with basic management systems such as the new generation ISO 9001 and the demands for a joint occupational safety standard prepared by itself and many countries.

ISO 45001 was prepared in accordance with the new system created by ISO for quality systems. The standard, which is called Annex SL and consists of 10 articles in accordance with the structure that forms the framework of quality systems, is compatible with other quality systems.

The World Labor Organization (ILO) reports that every 15 seconds an employee dies as a result of a work accident or occupational disease. It is extremely critical that a standard model be implemented all over the world to quickly improve this bad statistics. With the ISO 45001 standard, it is aimed to increase the level of occupational health and safety by developing mandatory policies, targets and processes in workplaces. With this standard, it will be necessary to identify hazards and risks in each workplace and prepare plans to eliminate them appropriately or reduce them to a reasonable level. In the new standard, personnel are expected to take a more active role in such studies and help identify various hazards.
